Pros and Cons Between CNA and MA

The pros of being a CNA is that you can be trained in about a month.
The cons: low pay ($8-10 an hour), you are on your feet a lot and it’s a physically demanding job. CNA’s require more training, you also get the worst jobs in healthcare, cleaning patients up, emptying bedpans, and changing adult diapers. You aren’t going to work in the Emergency Room or OB unit in a hospital as a CNA; you’re pretty much stuck to nursing home/extended care facilities.
The Pros of being a Medical Asst: good working hours if you like a Monday-Friday approach. You can draw blood, give injections, perform EKG’s, and other skills requested by the practitioner that a CNA couldn’t do. Most hospitals prefer to hire Patient Care Techs that were trained as Medical Assistants because they already know sterile technique, phlebotomy, and EKG’s…which are some skills that Patient Care Techs need.
